lens for bringing pics in closer

Hi all,am new to this and am struggling a bit with what lens I need. I have a D200 and am using 18 200 Nikon VR lens. Would like to know what lens I need to zoom in on sport people to get better closeup shots, esp footy etc. Can get ok pics at present but usually only when subject is on the boundry near me. Would like to drag the subject in closer. Any comments would be appreciated. I am struggling with the numbers concept on the lens so hence my questionregards Grant SchwartzkopffSee More
