"The Tokina is an extremely sharp lens. it does what the nikon does IN SPADES at a fraction of the cost. had mine for a year on a D300 and couldn't be happier.

Is Nikon 80MM f3.5 VR DX lens worth the price??
It always surprises me that a micro Nikkor lens has (an expensive) VR added to it (and its already premium price). After all, in macro mode, one would assume that the camera is on a tripod and the VR TURNED OFF to prevent shake from the gyroscopic (or similar) stabilising mechanism.....As a Nikon user for over 30 years, I have no sense of 'disloyalty' in singing the praises of the renowned Tamron 90mm f2.8 Di AF macro lens.
