I've decided to upgrade my trusty 30D to a canon 5D MK2, but I'm having second thoughts as I've realised that only one of my three lens (& it's the one I hardly ever use) is compatible and I'm not sure if I can justify the cost of my little hobby.
So do I compromise and start looking at the 7D or do I save for a bit longer and wait till I can afford the 5D + lenses.
Anyone using the 7D? Happy with it?
Thanks in advance
Martina

I wouldn't call the 7D a "compromise" as it actually has its own place in the Canon line up. I guess it all depends on what your shooting? If action, sports, kids, everyday shooting is your style, then I'd go the 7D every time, its a mighty 8fps over the 4fps of the 5DmII, not to mention you'll get 1.6x the focal length of every lens you put on it, and 19 cross points (and newer) focussing system, the 7D has in-built flash and flash transmitter, 5D - none. if you are doing low light or studio photography, than maybe the 5D mkII, it has better high ISO capabilities over the 7D - but overall I see the 7D as a much better overall system. The other thing, if you are really set on the 5D, I'd wait a little longer, all the "rumours" point towards a new mkIII (?) version coming at some point in the near future.
Good luck with whichever you choose, I guarantee you won't be disappointed with either!
Hi Martina, 5Dmk3 here soon. But the lens is what creates the photo. When I started spending $'s on Canon "L" lens's it "Rocked my world" Think Lens you will never regret it! So save your pennies and think big.
Good luck Russell.

I own a 5D Mark II (upgraded from a 40D) and had the same choice to make 5D vs 7D. I agree with what both Michael and Russell say. My decision was not based solely on cost but what I mostly shoot which is not action stuff. If you want action shots, the 7D is a winner.
I too had to upgrade a lens (the cheap EFS lens that was supplied with the 40D. The L series 24-105 that is part of the 5D kit is superb - especially its wide angle. The person at Photo Wholesalers made up my mind for me when he showed me a 7D with my EFS lens and then the 5D with the 24-105.
As Michael says, the lens is everything - no good having a good camera and a bad lens. If you upgrade to a 7D without changing lenses, you are not going to get the full benefit. After all the EF lens that you have to be will be usable into the future - at some stage you will probably want to change lenses anyway.
What has not been mentioned so far is that the 5D is a full frame camera. I probably would have bought the 7D if it weren't for that.

Looks like I'll be saving my pennies for a little longer then...
