Olympus introduces new PEN E-P1 Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens system camera

Not a Compact. Not an SLR... It’s a PEN

Small, lightweight, elegant design, easy operation and HD movie/audio recording

Olympus is pleased to announce the arrival of the Olympus PEN E-P1, an interchangeable lens system digital camera compliant with the Micro Four Thirds System standard.

Scheduled for release in Australia in July 2009, the camera is the first in an entirely new
camera category created by Olympus. The new PEN E-P1 and its associated accessories
signal a new strategy by Olympus to deliver high-resolution SLR image quality in a model that
is as conveniently sized and as easy to use as a compact camera.

With a slim line body, premium quality metal construction and a modern yet classically
elegant design, the Olympus PEN E-P1 is not a compact camera, nor is it a digital SLR. It
offers an entirely new way of taking photos and will appeal to a broad range of
photographers.

The camera features a 4/3 sized image sensor with an internal structure that eliminates the
traditional digital-SLR quick-return mirror – facilitating a radical reduction in camera size
without detriment to the advantages of digital SLR cameras such as high shooting
performance and high quality pictures.

Elegant, classic design: Mirrorless camera system with metal construction for a
premium, high quality feel in a light weight body that can be taken anywhere
As easy to use as a compact: Intelligent Auto and Live Control functions for intuitive
camera setting by selecting icons displayed on the LCD panel
The power to create: 4/3-inch Live MOS Sensor and new TruePic V image processing
engine offer traditional SLR-equivalent image quality. High Definition movie shooting and
high-quality audio recording in linear PCM format, coupled with Art Filters for creative
photographic expression

In conjunction with the release of the new Olympus PEN E-P1 camera, Olympus is pleased to announce two new interchangeable lenses – the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm f2.8 wide-angle pancake lens and the M.ZUIKO
DIGITAL ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6
standard zoom lens.

Both new lenses – the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm f2.8 (equivalent to 34mm on a 35mm camera) and M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 (equivalent to 28-84mm on a 35mm camera) – offer unprecedented portability compared to traditional SLR interchangeable lenses, whilst maintaining high imaging performance through their digital-dedicated design. Both lenses feature a highly-detailed sculpted exterior design that complements the design of the PEN E-P1 camera body, imparting a classic, high-end feel.
